What is disputed
Converse's collection was assembled by a writer who was not born into the nations she recorded, yet was not a distant tourist either: she was adopted into the Seneca Snipe Clan in 1885, named Ya-ie-wa-noh by the Seneca National Council in 1891, and raised as a sachem by the Onondaga in 1892.
