The Patagonians were a race of giants twelve to fifteen feet tall, first met by Magellan's crew at Port San Julian in 1520 and reported by European voyagers for the next two and a half centuries.
The voyage narratives that carry this story describe unusually tall people, but where they give numbers at all the numbers are much smaller than twelve to fifteen feet, and the figures shrink further once anyone measures.
