Giant buried beneath Sicily; his thrashing is said to cause earthquakes.

Enceladus was counted among the greatest of the Gigantes, the earth-born who rose against Olympus in the Gigantomachy. When the war turned, Athena - or Zeus, in variant tellings - cast him down and buried him under the island of Sicily, or specifically under Mount Etna. There he remains. When he shifts his shoulders in the prison of rock, the ground shakes; when he breathes or bleeds, the mountain vomits fire and ash.
