Hiranyakashipu obtained a boon that he could not be killed by man or animal, indoors or outdoors, by day or night, on earth or in the sky, by any weapon. He believed he had locked every door of death. He persecuted his own son Prahlada for devotion to Vishnu, unable to bear a child's faith that outranked a tyrant's law.
