Xelhua is named among the giant builders in central Mexican tradition - a survivor of a world-destroying flood who, with his brothers, set out to raise a tower or pyramid that would reach the clouds. At Cholula the structure rose until the gods, angered by the hubris or simply ending the age, cast fire upon it. Work stopped. Memory continued.
