Hrungnir was called the strongest of the giants: head of stone, heart of stone, shield of stone, a whetstone for a weapon. After a drunken visit to Asgard - where he boasted he would sink Valhalla and take Freyja and Sif - he met Thor at the border for a formal duel. The gods had shaped a clay giant, Mökkurkálfi, as his second, nine leagues high and with a mare's heart; Thor's servant Thjálfi felled that mockery while the real fight decided the day.
