Balor of the Evil Eye ruled among the Fomorians, the chaotic, often sea-linked adversaries of the Tuatha Dé Danann in medieval Irish tradition. A prophecy warned that he would die by his own grandson's hand. He locked his daughter Ethniu in a tower; Cian of the Tuatha Dé reached her nonetheless, and the child Lugh was born - the many-skilled one who would fulfill what Balor feared.
