Chain of custody

Balor and the second battle of Mag Tuired come down to us from pre-Christian Irish tradition: the story is native Irish pagan myth, carried orally through the conversion and only later written down by monks.

The witnesses checked for this ladder are Christian-era Irish manuscripts and post-medieval collections, and the case for older material inside them rests on linguistic dating and comparison rather than on a document from pagan Ireland.
