Shuten-doji is the chief of Mount Oe who took women from Kyoto and ate them. He was killed by warriors who arrived disguised as mountain priests and poisoned him at his own banquet.

Chain of custody
Shuten-doji is an ancient Japanese demon of the Heian period: the oni chief of Mount Oe who preyed on Kyoto until Minamoto no Yorimitsu killed him around the turn of the eleventh century.
The Heian dating belongs to the story's setting rather than to the documents that carry it, and the distance between the two is where this claim lives.
