The jentilak are the giants of Basque folklore - rural, strong, dwellers of high pastures and stone country. Tradition credits them with raising the dolmens and menhirs that stud the landscape, as if the Neolithic itself had a workforce with names. They are not always enemies; they are a previous order of being, closer to rock and weather than to church bells.
